Self Pub And Other News

Well, 2011 is nearly over. Just two more days and I can say buh-bye to a busy year. There were plenty of disappointments this year, especially with the closing of Sapphire Blue Publishing, but there have been lots of exciting things too, like becoming an independent consultant for Scentsy Wickless Candles (which are awesome, btw and if you want to check it out just go to http://www.cerianhebert.scentsy.us).

Because of SBP’s closing I had three manuscripts that needed a new home. I’m pleased to say one of them, Do Overs, was taken into the Still Moments Publishing family. Still Moments is a new publisher and I’m really excited being involved with at this level.  I don’t have a release date yet, but as the details come I’ll make sure to share them.

Best Man is under consideration at another publisher, my fingers are tightly crossed because I want it happy and settled like any proud mama.

That leaves the last of the manuscripts that SBP had planned on releasing. Or re-releasing. Finally Home.  For those who don’t know, Finally Home was originally published by Whiskey Creek Press. I wanted to give it new life with a new publisher.  It’s not easy to find a publisher that will take on a previously pubbed manuscript, so now I’m wondering, what next?

Many of my fellow SBP authors have opted for self publishing with the manuscripts formerly pubbed with SBP and they have found it to be a successful venture.  I know I’m not a marketing diva, so the thought is a little daunting. It would all be on me, but here I have a story that is basically all ready to go and I’m thinking of taking the plunge. It means I could sell it on Smashwords, Amazon and Barnes & Noble amongst other places. I would just have to spread the word.

That’s what I’m wrestling with right now. Am I up for the task of making this work?

Can’t hurt to try, right?

So, with 2012 just a matter of days away I’m making a list of things I want to accomplish. From where I’m standing now I’m thinking it’s going to be an awesome year!

  1. With all of your publishing credits, I would think you would be a good candidate for self-publishing. I think it would be more difficult for someone without an established following or the publicity generated by her previous work to make a go of it. Good luck with whatever path you choose!

  2. Hi Ceri, your blog make-over (or should I say Do Over…hehehe) is gorgeous! Looks wonderful.

As for your books, they’re wonderfully written and I knew you’d find a home for them. Self pub is something I think can be scary, but you never know unless you try. Read up on self pubbing and go for it. I plan to give it a shot too in 2012….if time permits 🙂 I think there is nothing wrong with having yourself out there in several different venues…traditional (if you are so lucky), epubbed and self.

    Good luck!

  3. Hey Ceri. It’s hard to figure out which way to go in this rapidly changing market. Even the big houses don’t know which direction they’re headed in. Hope your year is stupendous. Best of luck.

  4. It all looks great, Ceri. Congrats on the sale of one book, consideration of another and I know you’ll be fine whichever way you choose to go with Finally Home! Be brave and daring when all else fails!
