It’s Friday and that means another recipe!
I hear it’s going to be a cold weekend (I really can’t complain, this has been one of the mildest winters I can remember) so I thought I’d post a great cold weather recipe-
THE HEBERT FAMILY CHILI
Ingredients:
1 lb hamburger
1 can baked beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can butter beans
2 pkg med chili mix
1 can diced tomatoes (I like the garlic and basil flavored)
1 pkg bacon (yup…. bacon. I like maple for its sweetness)
1 sm can tomato paste
1 onion-diced
In large skillet cook hamburger until nearly done. Meanwhile cut up bacon into small pieces. Add to almost cooked hamburger. When hamburger and bacon are completely cooked add all other ingredients. Simmer. Can also transfer burger/bacon to a crock pot then add all the other ingredients and cook in crock pot for several hours.
It’s such an easy recipe and one of my favorite chili recipes ever. Sometimes we add chipotle for a little extra kick and flavor.
Hope you enjoy it!
Yum…love chili! I haven’t met too many others that put baked beans into their chili…so you surprised me. I’ll have to try adding the bacon to mine….like you, we like a little sweet in our chili and I usually add a couple of tablespoons brown sugar to give it that kick. LOL
Thanks for sharing Ceri!
Glad you liked it, Christine. I love the bacon in it. Brown sugar would work great too. My husband puts that in our spaghetti sauce. I’d post that recipe but he really doesn’t have a recipe, he just throws things together and always comes up with a sauce that could be used in any Italian restaurant. 🙂
Chilli!!! Awesome, Ceri. Thank you! I’ll absolutely try this one Sunday when we’re supposed to get our first snow (maybe it’ll reach us).
First snow! Is that normal for your area? Of course we in New Hampshire haven’t had much snow at all this winter. Sad when our biggest snow came the day before Halloween! I’d like to get some snow for the sake of avoiding a drought! Hope you enjoy the chili!
I’ll have to try this. I never thought of adding baked beans or bacon (although I do like bacon in my baked beans!).
