I am very pleased to have Collette Cameron on my blog today! Welcome Collette! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
COLLETTE: I have a BS in Liberal Studies and a Master’s in Teaching, which I didn’t get until I was in my forties. I have three amazing adult children, a girl and two boys, and 5 dachshunds. My puppy, Ayva, sits on my lap while I write, until she gets too hot. I often have to wipe puppy drool off the keyboard. Yuck. Ayva also nibbles at and lies on the keyboard. I love a good joke, trivia, the beach, birds, shabby chic, and Cadbury Chocolate. I just finished THE VISCOUNT’S VOW, the second book in the series. You’ll always find dogs, birds, quirky—sometimes naughty—humor, and a dash of inspiration in my novels.
CERIAN: Sometimes my 35lb dog tries to sit on my lap when I’m at my desk. Doesn’t work so well. A Dachshund is a much better fit! Congratulations on finishing your new book. That’s always a wonderful feeling! When did you first start to write?
COLLETTE: In February 2011, I decided to sit down and write a Regency romance. I wrote HIGHLANDER’S HOPE, the first book in my Blue Rose Trilogy. It releases from Soul Mate Publishing in May 2013. The second book , “The Viscount’s Vow” is coming from Soul Mate too, though I don’t have a release date.
CERIAN: Wow! I wish I could complete a manuscript that quickly! We’re Soul Mate sisters! What does your writing area look like (besides having a little puppy drool on the keyboard).
COLLETTE: I’m sooo glad you asked this question! I have the most gorgeous shabby chic writing room. For the first 18 months of my journey as an author, I used my husband’s den. He has four bucks—not as in dollars, but as in dead animals— mounted on the walls. Trust me when I tell you it was not an environment conducive to writing romance. But, my shabby chic room is very feminine, very frou-frou, and very pink and white. It was my son’s bedroom. He’s not too terribly fond of the decor.
CERIAN: I bet he’s not, but it sounds like heaven! But, heck, I’d take the den with the buck heads on the wall just for a little privacy (I write in Grand Central Station). What is your favorite genre to write? How many do you write in?
COLLETTE: Currently write Regency Romance with suspense subplots and inspirational overtones. I have some ideas for other genre’s too, mostly historical though. I’ve got a paranormal historical trilogy haunting me. It’s just in the rudimentary stages in my mind right now, and I have six other books to write before them, so we’ll see what happens. I also have a single title I’m dying to write. I may write it before I start the six book Ferguson Saga.
CERIAN: Sounds like you have it all mapped out. That’s awesome. Love paranormal romances. What inspired your latest story?
COLLETTE: HIGHLANDERS HOPE developed from a single scene that played out in my mind. Originally, I was going to have the entire story take place in England, but a twist in the plot made Scotland a better location for the last half. Plus, I’m part Scottish and do adore anything to do with the Scots. . . except whiskey. Can’t stand the stuff. But give me some Scottish shortbread and tea—
CERIAN: I have a weakness for the Scots, though I’ve got English and Welsh blood in my veins. Not a big whiskey fan though. What else do you like to do besides write?
COLLETTE: I love to bake and garden. I also enjoy decorating and amateur photography. Long walks, especially on the beach are always fun, and I like to salmon fish. . . as long as I don’t have to clean the things. Hubby does that for me.
CERIAN: I’ve never been salmon fishing. Trout fishing, yes, Hornpout sure. I’d rather have salmon. Okay, now the quick questions.
Pick one word to describe yourself: Innovative
Favorite animal: Dogs, especially dachshunds
Favorite comfort food: Pumpkin Latte – I know it’s not food, but I do so relax when I sip one. Until the caffeine kicks in, that is. If you must have food, then warm white chocolate pecan cookies. Yummy!
Spring, summer, autumn or winter? Spring because I never know what’s going to come up in my yard! Oh, and the birds are all back. My yard is a certified wildlife habitat, and I have lots of birds visiting my feeders.
Favorite book: The Bible
Favorite movie: The Count of Monte Cristo
If you weren’t a writer, what would you want to do? Be a teacher—because I am.
Best vacation ever: The ten-day Caribbean cruise I’m taking for my 30th anniversary .
Okay, let’s talk about Highlander’s Hope! I LOVE this cover, by the way. Stunning!
Highlander’s Hope an 83,000 word novel set in 1817 England and Scotland. The book has all the trappings of a Regency, but goes beyond the usual confines of that era. There are liberal dashes of humor and an intricate suspense subplot that takes some unexpected turns.
Not a day has gone by that Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, hasn’t dreamed of the beauty he danced with two years ago. He’s determined to win her heart and make her his own. Heiress, Yvette Stapleton, is certain of one thing; marriage is risky and, therefore, to be avoided. At first, she doesn’t recognize the dangerously handsome man who rescues her from assailants on London’s docks, but Lord Sethwick’s passionate kisses soon have her reconsidering her cynical views on matrimony. On a mission to stop a War Officer traitor, Ewan draws Yvette into deadly international intrigue. To protect her, he exploits Scottish law, declaring her his lawful wife–without benefit of a ceremony. Yvette is furious upon discovering the irregular marriage is legally binding, though she never said “I do.” Will Ewan’s manipulation cost him her newfound love?
Ewan jolted awake. “Merde.”
He had fallen asleep with Yvette in his arms. Shooting a worried glance towards the window, he recognized the first golden blush of daybreak sweeping across the hazy sky.
Sucking in a strangled breath, he grasped the inexperienced hand fondling him.
“Yvette,” he whispered in her ear as she showered kisses across his bare chest and neck. Grasping her roaming hands, he pulled her into his tight embrace, and raised his voice. “Yvette. Wake up.”
He gave her a gentle shake
Dark lashes trembled, rising to reveal drowsy eyes. A smile lit her face when her gaze met his. She lifted her hand, caressing his face, her fingers lingering on his scar before she raised herself up and kissed the mark.
Caught up in the powerful spell, he almost forgot himself. He fought the urge to throw reason to the wind and kiss her with all the desire he was holding in check.
“Evvy, amour. . .” His voice was a throaty groan.
Ewan knew the moment she fully awoke.
She stiffened in his arms and gave a small cry of shocked dismay, then pressed frantically at his chest with both hands. He released her and watched her scramble across the bed. She stopped in the middle, facing him. Her hair swirled around her, settling in shimmering waves about her hips.
Dawn’s glow lit the room. He could see her expressions.
Shock—followed by confusion, and then complete horror as she realized the full scope of her situation.
